Breaking News: Sint Maarten Minister just arrested
PHILLIPSBURG –The former Minister of Finance, Hiro Sigimoto has been arrested in the on going investigation of fraud (“Piranha case”) of Government payments, according to reliable sources.
On Monday December 3, 2012 the Special Investigation Unit (Landsrecherche) arrested 59-year old R.A.G., the Public prosecutor’s Office stated in a press release. The arrest is the result of an investigation dubbed Piranha that started in 2011 after a complaint was filed.
From 2009 to 2011, G. was involved in recruiting personnel for various government agencies. He is suspected of having committed fraud, forgery and money laundering concerning payment for his services. A considerable amount of money appears to be involved.
On August 14, a search was already executed at the man’s office in Sint Maarten. At the same time, searches took place at two offices in Curaçao.
