The independence for Sint Maarten Foundation will be organizing an international conference here based on the theme, “The Last colonies in the Caribbean”, from March 6-8, 2015. Regional scholars and organizations, engaged in the decolonization of the remaining territories in the region, are expected to be in attendance. ISM foundation President Jose Lake Jr, said the response has been, “quite encouraging so far”. The conference aims to bring together Sint Martiners with others regionally in the remaining colonies, who are dedicated to political independence for their territories. The United Nations has set 2020 as the target date, for all colonies to attain independence. Dr Carlyle Corbin, a well known expert on governance and decolonization will be in attendance. Lake Jr, author of “The Republic of Sint Maarten” , stated that the conference was long overdue “we’re only five years away from the 2020 deadline set by the United Nations”. Proof that definite ties exist between the Italian Mafia and the political hierarchy in specifically the former Netherlands Antilles, abound and is quite prolific . The most recent cases of corruption is the Bada Bing, corruption scandal involving the now ruined for MP Patrick Illidge and the Bada Bing boss Jaap Van de Heuvel, where Illidge was paid in excess of $150,000 to insure that all necessary documents pertaining to said establishment would be regulated in due order. Illidge was to use his political office to insure that the Bada Bing boss operation could go on with all legal documentation in place. The photo above is a picture of the front cover of the book by Tewhan “Massacre” Butler, one of the most revered Blood leaders in New York.  At his height Massacre rubbed shoulders with the likes of Suge Knight and other “celebrities”, with Blood affiliations. Massacre commanded street respect, and his street credentials are iron-clad. Yet today he eschews gang life, and proposes a “better way”, for young people.  A true street soldier “preaching”, an anti-gang message? I think many wannabees are still missing his message, or deliberately ignoring it. In the Caribbean the Blood and Crips gang’s name brand have become ubiquitous with the youth imitating their North America cousins, it would be almost hilarious if , children weren’t being slaughtered in their numbers, all for a gang culture that is completely alien to our way of life here in the Caribbean .
